Introduction

These resources will help you find information on your Socratic Seminar topic.

Use the SIRS Issues Researcher and Opposing Viewpoints in Context databases to find accurate and useful sources.

Go to the SIRS Researcher database.

Log in to your Google account.

Look for your general topic in the menu in the bottom half of the screen.

If you can't find it, search for your specific topic in the search box at the top.

If you find your topic in the menu, read the full summary of the topic to get an overview. Read the research question and viewpoints.

Click on any article that seems useful, and then click on the Find more sources link to find more articles.

When you click on an individual article, use the menu at the top right and the Save to cloud link to save the article to Google Drive.

You can also click on the Cite button to get an MLA 8 style citation.

Sign in to your Google account using the link at the top right corner.

Click on Browse Issues in the top right corner of the screen.

Find your general topic in the list of topics.

If you don't see anything related to your topic, type it in the search bar at the top of the screen.

Keep your search simple by just putting in the name of the topic, not a whole phrase or question (e.g. electric cars, NOT what are the benefits of electric cars).

If you find your topic in the menu, click on it and look at the OVERVIEW at the top of the page.

The links below the overview are organized by the type of source.

The Viewpoints options are articles where the author is making an argument on one side of the issue, and they are helpful for planning your argument.

Click the Google Drive link to save an individual article to your account, if it is useful.

You will find a MLA 9th Edition Source Citation at the bottom of the article. You can Select and copy the citation into your document.
