Mathematics & Social Studies Teacher
Hello everyone!!! My name is Abraham Leon and I am a Mathematics Teacher here at Hill Middle School. I am very excited about this 2025-2026 school year as this is my second year in 8th Grade!!! I was an ELL teacher in another district and a teacher's assistant in a high school for 7 years before that.
I can describe my teaching style as Logic Based, High Energy, and full of Dad Jokes. We work as a 'Community' in my classroom. I believe that we have to help each other to get to where we have to go. No matter your role, you play that role to the fullest extent.
I am excited to about my fourth year at Hill, and love the culture. I truly enjoy what our students and their families bring to the table. If there are any questions about me or my classroom expectations, my email and line are always open.
Grade 8 Pre-Algebra
In 8th grade Pre-Algebra, students will focus on three critical areas:
(1) formulating and reasoning about expressions and equations, including modeling an association in bivariate data with a linear equation, and solving linear equations and systems of linear equations.
(2) grasping the concept of a function and using functions to describe quantitative relationships.
(3) analyzing two- and three-dimensional space and figures using distance, angle, similarity, and congruence, and understanding and applying the Pythagorean Theorem.
The Number System
• Know that there are numbers that are not rational, and approximate them by rational numbers.
Expressions and Equations
• Work with radicals and integer exponents.
• Understand the connections between proportional relationships, lines, and linear equations.
• analyze and solve linear equations and pairs of simultaneous linear equations.
Functions
• define, evaluate, and compare functions.
• Use functions to model relationships between quantities.
Geometry
• Understand congruence and similarity using physical models, transparencies, or geometry software.
• Understand and apply the Pythagorean theorem.
• Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving volume of cylinders, cones and spheres.
Statistics and Probability
• Investigate patterns of association in bivariate data.
Grade 8 Honors Geometry
Honors Geometry is a one-year course. Students are introduced to concepts covering:
-Algebra (Review)
-Congruence with Transformation/Rigid Motion
-Proofs
-Congruent Triangles
-Properties of Triangles
-Quadrilaterals
-Similarity
-Trigonometry
