Department of Multi-Media and Mass Communication
The Department of Multi Media and Mass Communication organized the Student Paper Presentation on the theme “Emerging media trends and discourses”, on October 13, 2022, at the AV Lecture Theatre. During this presentation, Prof. Rekha Upreti - our new Coordinator - was also introduced to the students. The various narratives discussed during this SPP dealt with media platform shifts, marriage as well as gender portrayal. Scrutinizing these details of media narratives was an essential aspect of our department’s research pedagogy. The fast-changing pace of technological advancements has engulfed the method of research, teaching and learning, this SPP provided an essential platform for students to discuss their ideas with confidence, supported through positive critique and feedback.
There were a total of 9 presenters mentored by the faculty of the department. The Semester 5 (third year) students presented first. They were:
● Yashika: Redefining Femininity in the Age of Social Media Subcultures: A Study on Cottage core and Fairy core Aesthetics
● Aakansha Sethi: OTT to OTC- another leap for the movie industry in the next decade?
● Ishika Ladda and Dhriti Jain: Impact of Covid-19 on the Print Media Industry: A study
This was followed by the presenters from Semester 3 (second year). Namely,
● Aditi Mallick and Vritti Mediratta : E-learning Platforms’ Social Media Marketing: Audience engagement analysis
● Ananya Shukla : Over the top or below the belt: A study on depiction of sexism and objectification of women in Indian Netflix series
● Prisha Raturi and Shambhavi Chaudhary: Deconstructing unions: Shifting portrayal of marriages on OTT
● Sanjana Chaudhary : Understanding Media Trial: How media narratives during social media movements affect the Court of Law
● Alona Yadav and Sonam Bala : Subscription Trends for OTT Platforms& Their Impact on Viewership: An Exploratory Study
● Devlina: Understanding the trend of short form video content and its affect on the youth of Delhi
Followed by the presentations, the mentors gave collective feedback to all the participants. The audience engaged in a question and answer round. where they questioned the target audience, research methodologies, and the specific reason for the research.
Professor Rekha Upreti, the coordinator of the Department of Multimedia and Mass Communication was present. She and the professors presented the badges to FOCUS, the student academic association of the MMMC Department for the session 2022-23.
