Workshop on Photography Composition and Documentation
Resource Person – Mr. Bharat Choudhary
Bharat Choudhary, a freelance photographer and documentary filmmaker took a workshop on photography composition and documentation on 7thSeptember 2019. The workshop was divided into two segments of 90 minutes each. The first session was on photography documentation and importance of portraiture in which Mr Choudhary talked about works of prominent photojournalists and differentiated between photojournalism and photo documentary by showcasing some of the artistic work of prominent photo documentary filmmakers in a visual presentation. He also talked about ethnography involved in photo documenting and its impact on composition.
The latter half of the workshop had the speaker emphasizing on the significance of 'composing a photograph'. Mr Choudhary further enlightened thestudents by displaying some of his own documented photographs on themes such as religion. Through this he explained how the presence of geometricalelements, reflections, shadows, depth of field and others allow the photographer to create balance in an image. He shared some anecdotes behind clickingthose pictures as well.
Mr Choudhary further explored the career aspect of being a documentary photographer and how exactly he entered the profession. It was inspiring andcaptivating for both the students and the faculty.
