On 24th October, 2021, The Department of Multi Media and Mass Communication organised an enlightening online workshop on 'Career Opportunities and Admission Process in US Universities for media students.'
The guest speaker for the session was 'Dr. Meghana Rawat.' She is an Assistant Professor of strategic communication at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. She has over eleven years of professional experience in strategic communication, M & E approaches, and research methodologies across for profit, non-profit sectors, and academia. She is also an alumni of Indraprastha College for Women, year of 2009.
Dr. Meghana Rawat began the session by discussing her career timeline. She emphasised on the importance of research experience in the bachelors’ programme of three years and also mentioned the importance of doing a one year diploma program which is required for the eligibility for admission at US based Master’s programme and for PhD opportunities. She said that it is best to complete a Master's programme in India and then complete a PhD in the United States. She also emphasised on writing a good statement of purpose and getting good letters of recommendation. Additionally she provided information on exams like TOEFL , GRE and IELTS. She also discussed opportunities in media and communication programmes. She feels there are many opportunities for people interested in filming , public relations, advertising and other art subjects and there are plenty of jobs available in the arts and communication. The session was gripping and could easily be understood by the audience because of the presentation.
The session was highly interactive because of the engagement from the speaker who kept the audience engaged. The students showed keen interest in knowing more about the Career Opportunities and Admission Process in US Universities. This session has definitely helped the students become more aware about the topic and was incredibly encouraging.
