'Lights - Camera - Action!' - International Media Festival
The last edition of Lights-Camera-Action! - International Media Festival, was organized to celebrate 20 years of BMMMC, from 5-7th March 2019.
The highlight of the festival was ‘Meet the Media’- A Symposium on the theme- ‘Media and the State’. The three panelists for the event represented Print, Electronic and Online Journalism - Ms. Anuradha Raman (The Hindu), Ms. Naghma Sahar (NDTV India) and Mr. Raghu Karnad (The Wire) talked about the media machinery and commented on its heterogeneity. All the panellists presented and discussed diverse perspectives on the theme; however, concluded with agreement on the non-monolithic nature of both Media and the State. The session was chaired by Dr. Babli Moitra Saraf, HoD, BMMMC. A presentation and exhibition by The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Media, Communication & International Agencies and a talk on “Communicating Culture: An Interactive Overview of Critical Media Studies in the US” by Prof. Roseann M. Manziuk, Visiting Fulbright- Nehru Fellow from Department of Communication Studies, Texas State University, was organised. The festival also hosted a film screening and discussion of the acclaimed film ‘Selling Children’ by Mr. Pankaj Johar, Documentary Filmmaker.
The documentary delved deep with the issue of child trafficking in India. The department launched its annual magazine Mise-en-Scène. Some other attractions of the festival included, Frame Politik- International Photography Competition and Exhibition, which received over 170 entries from across the world. Versified- Inter-College Slam Poetry Competition, and Inter-College Media Quiz were also organised. All the events witnessed a massive turnout of students from different colleges and universities.
