October 30, 2021, the Department of Multi Media and Mass Communication organised a workshop on “Challenges of on ground Reporting Journalism”. The guest speaker for the session was Mr Shushant S. Mohan, editor for DNA INDIA.COM and Zee News. He has a stellar history of working in the broadcast media industry and has trained several freshers under him. He has also worked in the field of Corporate Communication, Digital publishing, Team management, News writing and Radio Programming.
The session on the ‘Challenges of on ground Reporting Journalism’ taken by Mr Shushant S. Mohan started with a discussion on the importance of an editor first than to directly dive into the profession of reporting or anchoring. In a pool of approximately 40 lakh journalists, everyone is working in ways to counter social media clout (Whatsapp University). He further explained about innovation in the journalism field. He also made the students familiar with the ground reality of media houses and gave a deeper insight into the way they work and the importance of viewership for a media house. He also threw a light on three important aspects of reporting i.e. technique, knowledge and innovation. Towards the end of the session he pointed out some serious differences between activism and journalism, he also shed light on concepts of objectivity and work ethics with the help of his own experiences and some great stories. The entire session was highly interactive, interesting and could easily be understood by all because of the intriguing stories and interaction with students.
