BMMMC students visit to National Gallery of Modern Art
The third year students of the department of Multi Media and Mass Communication visited National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) on 22nd February 2020. The gallery has country’s best collection of modern Indian paintings and sculptures. The visit was organized as part of their paper, Communication and the Plastic Arts and coordinated by Ms. Sama Haq and Ms. Tanushree. It was a guided tour by Mr. Argha Kamal Ganguly who is the Assistant Curator of NGMA.
The students were shown and explained the masterpieces by Raja Ravi Verma, Rabindranath Tagore, Amrita Sher Gil, Jamini Roy as well as modernist masters such as MF Hussain, SH Raza and Tayeb Mehta.
Mr. Agha described about how oil paintings dwelled into Indian art form in colonial period and how miniature paintings played an important role as a mode of communication in diverse regions of India. Further he gave a detailed account about the paintings, such as painters’ country of origin, theme of paintings and ethnicity. He also taught the students to look various perspective in an art form.
The visit turned out to be an important learning exercise for BMMMC students and is being organized since last two consecutive years.
