Do I need to learn Swedish?
Although you will find that most people in Stockholm speak English, many parents at SIS take Swedish lessons. It is not essential, but it can make life a lot easier.

Most dairy products come in a lactose free option and will carry the words laktosfri. Sometimes the store have designated a section to all lactose free products.

Fish is very popular in Stockholm, particularly herring and salmon. There is a good selection of fresh fish available from supermarkets, or from food markets (saluhalls) at Hötorget and Östermalm. Beef cuts are labeled nötkött or oxkött, and the dishes containing beef begin with nöt or ox.
Pork cuts are labeled griskött or fläskött, and dishes containing pork begin with gris, fläsk or svin (pig).
Minced meat = köttfärs is meat that has been put through the grinder. Färs refers to any meat that has been minced. When pork and beef have been minced together, the result is called blandfärs. If the mince only contains beef, it is called nötfars.
