WELCOME TO THE sis parent community - spc!

We hope you had a fantastic summer reconnecting with friends and family. If this is your first year at SIS, the SPC extends a very warm welcome to each of you. If you are a “seasoned” SIS family, welcome back!

A warm welcome from the 2024 / 2025 SPC Board President

Hi,

I'm Pia Åström, and I'm thrilled to be your SIS Parent Community Board President this year.

After 15 wonderful years in Boston, we returned to Stockholm last year. Our son is in the 10th grade, and I've had the pleasure of volunteering at various SPC events since we joined the school. These events made our family feel so welcomed and included, which inspired me to take on the role of president. I'm excited to work together to make our community even stronger!

We hope  that you enjoy exploring the website to find out more of what we do in the SPC - but just in case you are short of time, below we give you the TL:DR!

We look forward to making the next year spectacular and cannot wait to meet you!

Pia

What is the SPC Board ?

The SIS Parent Community Board (SPC Board) is a team of parent volunteers dedicated to ensuring everyone feels the warm embrace of SIS from day one, enhancing the SIS experience for all students and parents. You can read more about our current board and their roles here.

What does the SPC Board do?

In partnership with parent class reps, volunteers and SIS, the SPC board organizes various exciting events, celebrations, and programs throughout the year. From the much-loved SIS International Day and student dances to parent-led social clubs, creative workshops, and the spooktacular Halloween celebration, there's always something fun on the horizon! Check out our events calendar

In welcoming new parents, we organise a year round buddy  program pairing new families with seasoned SIS families to help them settle in, make friends, and get insider tips about living in Stockholm. A boat mingle at the start of the Autumn term is an orgainsed event where new families get the chance to bond with each other, meet the SPC and is needlesss to say - a great way to make friends with fellow parents at the school. Information on this will be sent out at the start of the school year.

In addition, the SPC supports the school with internal SIS events. For example, organising a book swap for world book day, organising parents to talk to our upper school about careers or organising a fika for valentines day or end of term year breakfast. As these needs sometimes arise more ad hoc, they are not on our calendar - but we are always open to suggestions and volunteers to make the suggestions become a reality.

We encourage you to get involved and enjoy our activities. It’s one of the best ways to build relationships within the school community: with teachers and staff, other parents and your child’s classmates.

What is the difference between the SPC Board and the SPC?

If you are a parent or guardian of a student at SIS - You are part of the SPC - the SIS Parent Community

The SIS Parent Community is made up of volunteer parents -  the SPC Board and the Parent Class Representatives work alongside other parent volunteers, such as those who initiate club events or are part of the buddy program or who help out with events such as International day or student dances.

If you would like to be a class representative, please check out the information on how to volunteer for this year or next year. All parents are invited and welcomed to vote for new board members, which happens annually in May and of course there are more opportunities to volunteer, ranging from helping to organise your child's student dances via your class rep to being part of the buddy  program for a new SIS family.

We have a very active parent community with many different clubs, such as running, walking, photography, book, cooking, and city lunch clubs. Check out Classlist to find the clubs and join in!

The best way to keep updated :

We will organize general meetings (open to all) and post information on notice boards, and send out updates to all parents. Even if you can’t attend physical meetings, you'll always be in the know!
