In Unit 5 students design, implement, and document projects to improve food security in their communities.
They collaborate with peers in cities around the world as they create solutions with their classmates in their local communities. They may start an event, an artistic production or a visual town hall.
In the Community Action Project, students will identify a water security issue in their community and work together as a class to address the issue. Students will choose a digital project type and tool to create a presentation and share their work with their international peers.
Enduring Understandings:
I can create local solutions to global challenges.
I can collaborate with people in my community and around the world to create better solutions and make a bigger impact than if I work alone.
I can share my work with people in my city and around the world to inspire them to take action.
They followed the design process to make a plan, take action, and share the results!
In the Brainstorm activity, they reviewed water security issues they learned about and identify potential actions to address those issues in their community. They viewed projects from past Global Scholars students that help them get Inspired about the impact they can have in their community and the creative ways they can use digital tools to present their project to their peers.
They shared their initial ideas in Global Discussion: Project Brainstorm and asked their peers for feedback and new ideas.
Students learned how to Make Group Decisions as they prepare to decide on a Community Action Goal:

VISIT TO A WATER TREATMENT PLANT
Here you can see our educational visit to EMATSA water treatment plant. During this activity, they learned about he purification of wastewater that consists in the elimination of the polluting load. It is the previous step to be able to return it to the natural environment with the minimum environmental risks, or to allocate it to other secondary uses.
In the beginning, students decided to organize a beach cleanup event as a community action project. However, due to some events, we couldn't do it. So, they quickly adapted and decided to create a quiz about water instead. By designing engaging questions and using digital tools, they aim to educate and inspire our community. Their quizzes cover various aspects of water conservation, empowering individuals with the knowledge needed to make a positive difference.
They didn't let the goal of raising awareness about environmental conservation.
