This unit introduces students to the Global Scholars program and e-classroom. Students get to know their international peers by posting introductions to themselves and their cities in the e-classroom discussion board, and by reading and replying to others. Students learn to identify and share perspectives and to respond respectfully to the perspectives of others.
In the Meet the Global Scholars digital project, our class creates a video where students introduce our school, city, the importance of water for our community and their opinion about being a Global Scholars.
Enduring Understandings:
I am a digital and global citizen.
Global Scholars are part of an international digital community, sharing perspectives and learning from one another in the e-classroom.
My peers and I have unique perspectives that are shaped by our age, experiences, and cultures.
When I encounter a new or unfamiliar perspective, I can ask respectful questions to learn more.
The Global Scholars Pledge is a promise you make to yourself, your classmates, and your international peers.
When you sign the pledge, you show that you understand what it means to be a responsible member of this special community.
When was a time you disagreed with someone because you had different ideas about the same topic? Each of us has a unique way of seeing the world around us. This is called our perspective. In Global Scholars, we learn about many perspectives from around the world. We did an activity to learn how our perspectives can lead us to think about the same topic in different ways, reading the article: "Does the language we speak influence the way we see the world?" and reflecting about it. Have a look, it's very interesting!
Digital project:
We brainstormed ideas for what to include in our Meet the Global Scholars video. Brainstorming is the first step in the design process. It helps us consider as many ideas as possible. All ideas are good to share in a brainstorm. Here you can see the mind map with our ideas:
And this is our video:
We also made some presentations about "La Castanyada" to send to our international peers to share our culture.
