In Unit 2, students examine water through a personal lens to discover its essential role in daily life and culture. They calculate their water footprints to determine how water-wise they are and identify ways they can conserve water in their everyday lives. Students investigate school water sources and create a digital water guide to share their observations. They suggest ways to improve availability, accessibility, and usage for everyone in their school community.
Enduring Understandings:
Water is important in people’s lives and cultures.
Access to safe water and responsible water use are essential for healthy communities.
People’s choices impact their water footprints.
We started sharing in the e-classroom some water activity or celebration that is important in our culture. Most of the students wrote about "La Remullada":
Activity: My Water Footprint.
We calculated how big is our water footprint, downloading the Water Footprint Quiz in the e-classroom, and answering the questions to calculate our personal water footprint. Analyzing the results, we answered the big question: What is one thing you will do this week to be more water-wise?
Digital project:
We started with field research to conduct an audit of our school water sources. In groups, we took notes to make a map of our school’s water sources, pictures of the places visited and notes about our observations during the walk around the school.
These are our School Water Guides:
We always share our digital projects on the school website:
