Welcome back! We hope that you've enjoyed your half term break and are as eager as we are to continue our learning during this term. We are excited to present the Summer Term newsletter where you can find out about all of the incredible learning opportunities we have this term.
You will also find a list of words used for this terms spelling assessments.
In English, the children will be reading Vlad and the great fire of London. The story is about Vlad the flea and Boxton the rat navigating the Great Fire. The children will be writing their own diary entries.
During the Summer term, Year 2 will be focusing on statistics and learning how to interpret and create different tables, tally charts and pictograms. We will then move into focusing on positions and describing movement, turns and solving shape patterns involving turns.
In Science, we will be exploring different materials such as paper, plastic and wood and their properties. We will be exploring how we can change the shape of materials and discussing why certain materials have been chosen to make an object.
This half term, the children will be looking at the Great Fire of London. We will be looking into how the monarchy responded to the fire and the impact it had on the city of London.
In computing we will be building on our knowledge of algorithms and make predictions based on the sequence of commands. We will then programme quizzes including questions, artwork and algorithms.
In RE we will be learning about Sikhism where we will learn about the 10 different Gurus and the impact they have had on Sikhism.
We will also learn about the Bandi Chhor Divas celebration and how Sikhs worship at home and in the Gurdwara.
In PE, we will be focusing on athletics and learn the correct technique for running short distances. We will also be building skills playing ball games involving a racket.
In Art, children will be exploring the style of Pop Art through the music genre of Rock 'n' Roll. The children will be creating pop art portraits inspired by Andy Warhol.
In Music we will be learning a selection of songs and choosing some we would include in a performance. We will also explore the social question of how music teaches us to look after our planet.
In RHE we will be continuing our learning about economic well being.
This includes looking at different skills people may have and how this can relate to different jobs.
