Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely restful break and are exciting for our time ahead together! We are thrilled to present Receptions curriculum newsletter for the second half of the summer term, where you can explore the incredible learning opportunities that await your children during this upcoming period.
Communication and Language
This half term to support and develop the children's communication skills, we will be retelling the story 'The True Story Of The Three Little Pigs' using story maps. We will then focus on creating questions to interview characters from the story, which will be played by the students. The children will then create their own news articles to present their interviews.
.
We will be reflecting on our time in Reception and thinking about all of our achievements this year. We will look back at our experiences and talk about the things we have enjoyed the most. We will also look back at our learning journey and how far we have come. The children will then begin their transition to Year 1 by learning more about the exciting changes to come and spending some time in the year 1 classroom.
.
Reception will use our final few weeks to practise their target throwing, balancing, running, jumping and maneuvering around obstacles in preparation for our sports day event. We are excited to showcase the skills we are learning and demonstrate our perseverance, mindset and team spirit.
We will be exploring traditional tales and alternative endings. We will begin by looking at 'The True Story Of The Three Little Pigs. We will use this traditional tale to develop our questioning skills, interview techniques, and to create a newspaper article.
During our daily Little Wandle phonic sessions we will be moving onto Phase 4 Summer 2.
Each week we will bring home a reading book linked to our phonic sessions and a story book to share with you to help develop our love of reading.
This half term, we will begin by exploring double facts and doubling numbers above 5. We will then move onto explore capacity, weight and sharing equal amounts.
We will have the opportunity to use real resources such as measuring jugs and weighing scales to make the learning experience more explicit for the children.
This term sees the return of Arts fortnight which the theme for this year is ‘Music’.
We will be focusing our art work around the genre 70s and 80s Disco. Using a variety of different art techniques we will create our own art outcome, listen to a range of artists and collaborating with Nursery to create a joint outcome using a variety of techniques and mediums. In addition to this, we will be exploring dance styles through a workshop with Diddy dance.
We will continue to develop a deeper understanding of the world around us and our curriculum learning from last term outside of the classroom through our weekly nature school sessions.
We will also be observing the changes to our environment and the impact the planting and growing of our bee gardens from previous terms have had.
