Welcome back, we hope you had a wonderful break. We are thrilled to present the Nursery curriculum newsletter for the second half of the summer term, where you can explore the incredible learning opportunities that await your child during this upcoming period.
This term we will continue with the Global theme 'Sustainable Development'. The focus of the term is learning about Worms. Over the course of the term, the children will be reading the book ‘Superworm’. Through this text, we will learn about the characters in the story, worms and what they do for our environment. To encourage the children’s interest they have already been given the opportunity to meet our new worms and help get their new wormery ready for them.
Our focus will be on Foundations for Phonics which is part of Little Wandle, using rhymes and stories. They will be planned activities linked to the rhymes which will support children's understanding to be able to respond to questions. This term the children will begin to explore the love for reading scheme from Little Wandle.
Sadly for many of us this will be our last half term together. We will be using our ‘Zones of Regulations’ to help us understand the emotions we may be feeling during the changes. We will be spending time in the Reception playground and classrooms so that we will become more familiar with these areas. We will be talking about different schools, making new friends and routines related to spending all day at school.
In Maths we will be extending our knowledge of number 10 through the use of songs and rhymes. We will solve problems using number stories and real life scenarios. We will also be recapping our knowledge of 2D and 3D shapes.
This term sees the return of Arts fortnight which the theme for this year is ‘Music’.
We will be focusing our art work around the genre 70s and 80s Disco. Using a variety of different art techniques we will create our own art outcome, listen to a range of artists and collaborating with Reception to create a joint outcome using a variety of techniques and mediums. In addition to this, we will be exploring dance styles and moves used during carpet sessions.
Our role play area is “Forest school’ which will enable the children to practice using the knowledge they have already gained about butterflies and frogs. They will also learn about the importance of minibeasts in our gardens and outdoor areas. In addition, this will enable them to practice communication skills and the new vocabulary they have learnt to retell the story of superworm.
