Year 5

In English the children will be reading When the Sky Falls by Phil Earl and creating their own narratives in this style.   

In Maths, the children will be learning how to measure, draw and calculate angles. These will include on a straight line, a triangle and a quadrilateral. They will then be learning how to trnaslate a shape using coordinates and a line of symmetry. 

In Science, the children will be answering the question "How does the position of the planets affect life on Earth?" To help them answer this question they will learn about the Earth's orbit and the phases of the moon.  

 In history, the children will be using primary and secondary sources to learn about World War 2 and the key events that shaped this recent historical event.

In online safety, the children will be learning about managing online information effectively. And in computing they will be using their digital literacy skills to learn how to utilise an online document - this will be done through Google Docs

In RE, the children will be learning how Buddhists try to follow the teachings of Buddha - covering key figures such as Prince Siddhartha and the Dali Lama. 

In PE, they will learn competition net games such as tennis, continue swimming lessons and hone their athletics skills 

In DT the children will be learning how mechanisms work in order to move things - this will be linked to their science learning and they will make an orbiting model of the solar system 

In French, the children will be learning how the French pronounce different countries and their nationalities. They will produce a booklet in French about their own nationality.
