Welcome back, we hope you had a good half term break and are as excited as we are for the next part of the learning journey. In the newsletter you will be able to explore all the exciting learning as well as the words which will be used in our weekly spellings.
Our core text this term is 'The Promise' by Nicola Davies and the text will offer opportunities for the class to develop descriptive language and explore different text types as they plan and write a newspaper report. Throughout the learning journey, we will be analysing imagery in the text and generating descriptive language and similes.
During the Summer term, Year 2 will be focusing on recognising and finding different fractions before moving onto telling the time. We will start by recognising and finding different fractions including a half, a quarter and a third. We then move on to time where we will be focusing on telling the time and identifying how many minutes in an hour and hours in a day.
In Science, we will be moving our learning onto plants. During the half term we will be planning and completing comparative tests focusing on what plants need to grow.
This half term we are starting our Geography learning by identifying differences between the United Kingdom and The Gambia.
We will also be identifying human and physical features within the UK.
In computing we will be learning about how we can present information and text in different ways.
We will do this by creating quizzes, making a fact file and a presentation which we can show to the class.
In RE we will be learning about Islam and focusing how Muslims show respect to Allah in everyday life.
We will learn about the 5 Pillars of Islam and identify the importance of charity, fasting and prayer.
In PE, we will be focusing on athletics and building skills and techniques in controlling and changing a movement and aiming objects towards a target.
In DT Year 2 will be designing and creating their own headdress.
We will exploring different materials and designs as well as identifying methods of joining materials.
In Music we will be exploring improvisation.
Looking at different pieces of music and having a go to play a range of instruments and sing along.

In RHE we will be learning about safety and the changing body. We will learn about the concept of privacy and respecting personal boundaries.
