Welcome back, we hope you had a wonderful Easter break. We are thrilled to present the Nursery curriculum newsletter for the first half of the summer term, where you can explore the incredible learning opportunities that await your child during this upcoming period.
This term our Global theme is 'Sustainable Development'. We will be exploring this theme through the use of our core text ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ and ‘The Tiny Seed’. The children will sequence the story using a story mountain to support them with retelling the story through role play. We will be listening and retelling stories using actions and pictures, and exploring the different components that make up a story, i.e. characters, settings and plot.
Our focus will be on Foundations for Phonics which is part of Little Wandle, using rhymes and stories. They will be planned activities linked to the rhymes which will support children's understanding to be able to respond to questions. Environmental sounds will also be done in small groups. Children will also be involved in games to support their blending skills.
We will be exploring the importance of caring and sharing. We will be encouraging the children to show sensitivity to other people’s feeling and needs, and what we can do to help and include others when they are excluded. Children will be encouraged to ask questions and to suggest ways that they could solve a problem. We want to promote children's independence and individuality, but also promote our children to be sensitive to the needs of others.
This half term, we will be exploring patterns and shapes in our Maths learning. Children will do this by recognising and sorting patterns, as well as going on 'pattern hunts'. Children will also develop their understanding of shapes by exploring 2D and 3D shapes through songs, pictures, games as well as exploring shapes in our environment.
Linking to our core texts for this half term, in Art, children will be exploring plants and flowers which will include drawing, printing and collage. Children will also have the opportunity to create observational drawings of flowers.
The children will experience different vegetables through sensory activities such as smelling and tasting. The children will look at the life cycle of plants and have real life experiences of planting and growing in the outdoor environment.
