Maundene Weekly
________________________
Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome Back and Happy New Year
Welcome back to a new term at Maundene, and a very Happy New Year to all our families. It has been lovely to see so many smiling faces skipping into school this week, even with the crisp winter chill. The children’s enthusiasm has brought a wonderful energy back into the school.
We also welcomed Mrs Taylor, our new deputy headteacher, this week and she has been settling in well getting to know the school, staff and children. She is on the gates every morning so please come over and say hello!
What We’ve Been Up To This Week
Year R enjoyed an exciting Gruffalo workshop and have been working hard to understand trigraphs in phonics. Year 1 watched Up to launch their new English topic and have already begun discussing the characters and themes. Year 2 explored the character of Isobel in Invisible and created some impressive expanded noun phrases. Year 3 started The Day the Crayons Quit and planned a detailed science investigation into friction. Year 4 learned about the explorer Matthew Henson and have been developing their multiplication skills in maths. Year 5 began their unit on Greek myths and created a timeline of key events from Ancient Greece. Year 6 started their new text, Gorilla Dawn, and have been exploring the story’s themes and setting.
As we begin the term, we look forward to seeing the children continue to grow and thrive. Wishing you all a restful weekend and a great week ahead.

Reading regularly at home is one of the most effective ways to support children’s learning. It helps build vocabulary, strengthens comprehension, boosts confidence and nurtures a lifelong love of stories.
Visit Walderslade Village Library - Our local library is a fantastic free resource with a wide range of children’s books, activities and digital services. You can find opening times and details here: https://www.medway.gov.uk/directory_record/43/walderslade_village_library
Medway Foodbank provides three days of nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people in crisis across the Medway towns.
To contact Medway Foodbank, please call 01634 757057 or email info@medway.foodbank.org.uk for information on how to get a voucher or find your nearest distribution point.
As mentioned previously, Harper in Finches was lucky enough to win the Disney on Ice tickets. Harper and her family had a fantastic time and kindly shared a picture with us!
We’ve noticed that Labubu dolls and keychains have become very popular recently. While they are very cute, they are starting to cause some big distractions in the classroom and playground.
To keep our learning time focused and to make sure no expensive toys get lost or broken, Labubu dolls will no longer be allowed in school starting Monday 12th January. Thank you for helping your child leave their "monster friends" safely at home!
