Maundene Weekly
________________________
Dear Parents and Carers,
What a spectacular week it has been! The hallways have been buzzing with excitement as we celebrated World Book Day. Whether the children arrived dressed in their creative costumes or their cosy PJs, it was a wonderful reminder of the magic that lives within the pages of a book. It was truly heartening to see our pupils (and staff) so engaged in celebrating the joy of reading and seeing our school community come alive through literature.
A huge thank you to Mrs O’Connor for her incredible hard work in organising such a fantastic range of activities. Her passion for literacy ensured the day was a resounding success for every child at Maundene.
It has been a busy and productive week of learning across the school. Here is a summary of what each year group has been focusing on:
Year R: In Maths, we have been mastering our number bonds to ten. In English, we have been looking at the forest setting in the traditional tale, Hansel and Gretel.
Year 1: This week’s Maths has focused on using number lines to support our calculations. In English, we have been using descriptive adjectives to describe characters.
Year 2: We have been investigating length and weight in Maths. Our English lessons have focused on using expanded noun phrases to add detail to our writing.
Year 3: In Maths, the children have been finding equivalent fractions. In English, we have been working hard on describing a character effectively.
Year 4: We have been looking at mixed numbers in Maths. In English, we have been learning how to 'show, not tell' through our choice of words to make our writing more engaging.
Year 5: This week we have been comparing decimals in Maths. In English, the focus has been on learning how to write an authentic diary entry.
Year 6: In Maths, we have been working on the relationship between percentages, decimals, and fractions. In English, we have been crafting detailed setting descriptions.
Have a wonderful weekend
Miss Capes, Mrs Taylor and the Maundene Team
Outdoor Wear: As mentioned above, please ensure children have sturdy, waterproof coats in school as we head into a wetter week.
PE Kits: Please ensure all children have their full, weather-appropriate PE kits in school for their designated days.
Reading Records: Don't forget to sign your child's reading record over the weekend; every entry counts!
At Maundene, we greatly value our partnership with parents and carers. We understand that there may be times when you need to contact your child's teacher via email or request a meeting. We would like to kindly remind families that, due to daily teaching commitments and staff meetings, we aim to respond to all enquiries within 48 hours. We thank you for your patience and understanding in allowing our staff to prioritise their time with the children during the school day.
We would like to say a huge thank you to those who have already volunteered their time to come into school and help our children with their reading. The children love sharing stories with you, and it makes such a positive impact on their confidence and progress.
We are always looking for more Reading Volunteers. If you have an hour or two to spare each week and would like to help, please contact the school office. Whether you are a parent, carer, or grandparent, your support would be greatly appreciated!
