Maundene Weekly
________________________
Dear Parents/Carers,
This week, we have had our very own Maundene Elf causing havoc and up to mischief. The Elf has read a story to the school through our tanoy, delivered our Celebration Assembly and even visited Year R with a reindeer called Skippy!
The children in Reception have worked incredibly hard on their writing skills, particularly ensuring they are forming letters correctly. The children were provided with images that match CVC words and they used wordmats to support them in writing the words.
As part of their RE learning, the children in Year 1 retold the Nativity story. The children used masks and acted as the different characters in the Nativity to support them in retelling the story with their friends.
In their maths lessons, Year 2 were using a counting stick to support them in remembering their times tables. It is so important that the children learn their times tables as it supports them in developing their arithmetic skills.
This week, Year 3 turned into superheroes. The children discussed their own heroes and how their personal strengths are their 'superpowers'. The children also spoke about how they can use their strengths to support others.
As part of their geography learning, Year 4 completed their double page spread which focused on the similarities and differences between the UK and Germany. The children used beautiful handwriting and presented their learning neatly.
During their art lesson, Year 5 enjoyed using different painting techniques using watercolours. The children spoke about primary and secondary colours and also focused on mixing colours together.
Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed their art lesson this week and their outcomes are beautiful! The children used watercolours to create a gradient background and used black pen to draw a tree and write an inspirational quote. This artwork was influenced by the artist, Sam Cannon.
On Friday, everyone looked amazing in their Christmas/winter outfits. Thank you so much for your chocolate donations for the PTA chocolate raffle.
We hope you have a lovely weekend,
Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team
A reminder that consistent, daily reading at home is a critical part of your child's academic development. Please utilise the Digital Reading Log to add your comments about your child's reading. This platform is monitored weekly by teachers and leaders so that we can follow up with individuals to ensure they are accessing the platform consistently. If you are having trouble accessing this, please speak to your child's class teacher.

Dear parents,
As we are a healthy school and also have children with severe allergies, we would like to remind all parents of the expectations for packed lunches. Please can you refrain from giving your child the following:
Nuts or products that contain nuts e.g. Nutella.
Chocolate bars - Biscuits or wafers are acceptable (penguins etc.)
Sweets
Fizzy drinks
If children are bringing in their own snacks for snack time in the classroom, this must be fruit or vegetable only.
Due to the risk of choking, we recommend you cutting grapes for children, particularly those under the age of 5.
Thank you for your support with this.
