Maundene Weekly
________________________
Dear Parents/Carers,
This week, our Reception children thoroughly enjoyed their maths lessons which focused on shape. The children were naming 2D shapes and describing them using their properties, sides and corners.
As part of their English learning, Year 1 focused on using imperative verbs, which they called 'bossy verbs', within their instructions. The children produced a beautiful set of instructions about 'How to wash a woolly mammoth'.
In their maths lessons, Year 2 were learning about vertical lines of symmetry on 2D shapes. The children named the different 2D shapes and then used a ruler to draw a straight line, identifying the line of symmetry.
This week, in their English learning, Year 3 published their non-fiction writing which was based around plastic pollution and the impact this has on the planet.
In their maths lessons, Year 4 have been learning about the area of shapes. The children were counting squares to find the total amount that made up each shape, drawing different 2D shapes and comparing the areas of shapes.
In their computing lessons, Year 5 were learning about Vector Drawings, particularly how these shapes, called 'objects' are put together in layers to create more complex images.
Year 6 spent their English lessons using the Chromebooks to plan their newspaper articles inspired by their core text, Stella by Starlight. The children worked well in partners to share ideas developed over the term.
We hope you have a lovely weekend,
Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team
A reminder that consistent, daily reading at home is a critical part of your child's academic development. Please utilise the Digital Reading Log to add your comments about your child's reading. This platform is monitored weekly by teachers and leaders so that we can follow up with individuals to ensure they are accessing the platform consistently. Dear parents,
As we are a healthy school and also have children with severe allergies, we would like to remind all parents of the expectations for packed lunches. Please can you refrain from giving your child the following:
Nuts or products that contain nuts e.g. Nutella.
Chocolate bars - Biscuits or wafers are acceptable (penguins etc.)
Sweets
Fizzy drinks
If children are bringing in their own snacks for snack time in the classroom, this must be fruit or vegetable only.
Due to the risk of choking, we recommend you cutting grapes for children, particularly those under the age of 5.
Thank you for your support with this.
