Communication and Language
We will practice sharing our ideas and opinions with one another. Making sure that when we do, we speak in full sentences and extend our thinking using words like, ‘and’ or ‘because’. For example, ‘I liked this story because it was funny.’ We will be building up our vocabulary, particularly around the theme of sustainable development, animal and plants using these new words to express our ideas. At home you can encourage me to talk to friends and family about the things I have learnt, seen or heard.
.
We will be practising taking turns and sharing our resources. We will also be learning how to listen carefully to our friends and talking to find a solution to problems. At home you can support by talking to me about my friendships and encourage me to listen to others’ feelings and ideas. You can also help me to express how I am feeling and ways I can independently solve problems.
We will develop our fine motor control so that we can write. Using tools such as scissors, tweezers and pencils to strengthen our hands and practise little movements. We will be learning about the healthy diets and the important role food plays in keeping us healthy and strong.
In literacy, we will be learning to read and write simple words and sentences using our phonics knowledge developed in Autumn. We will also be learning about what living things need to survive, as well as where different animals live. We will use what we have learnt to create our own animal stories, which we will retell and act out for our classmates.
During our daily Little Wandle phonic sessions we will be learning the phonemes:
ai,ee,igh,oo,ure,ur,er,ar
and reading the tricky words:
was,you, they,my,by,are
Each week we will bring home a reading book linked to our phonic sessions and a story book to share with you to help develop our love of reading.
In Maths, we will be learning addition and subtraction to 10, focusing on numbers bonds and embedding them so that they are able to mentally recall addition facts to 10. Once secured, we will move onto doubling numbers up to 20. This will be done through activities such as the part-part-whole model and tens frames.
We will be exploring sculpture this half term. We will build on modelling skills and adding details to our models using a variety of tools. Then we will develop our imaginative role play skills by using our elephants to retell stories.
We will be exploring different animals from around the world, investigating their habitats and diet. We will also be investigating what humans and animals need to survive. We will be learning about different environmental changes and human impact on animal habitats.
