This term our Global theme is social justice and equity. We will be exploring this theme through the use of our core text ‘You Choose Fairytales by Nick Sharratt. We will be teaching the children about fairness and how this value is important within Nursery. We are also using the core text to help us to explore different fairy tales and characters This will introduce the children to a wider vocabulary and encourage them to use their own imaginations during carpet sessions and within their play.
We will be exploring what is fair and unfair, and the importance of sharing and turn taking turns. We will be encouraging the children to show sensitivity to other people’s feeling and needs, and what we can do to help and include others when they are excluded. Children will be encouraged to ask questions and to suggest ways that they could solve a problem. We want to promote children's independence and individuality, but also promote our children to be sensitive to the needs of others. We will be welcoming new children in January. This will give the everyone opportunities to meet new friend, share routines and be fantastic role models.
This half term, we will continue our number journey by using the Number blocks and a variety of objects for example the number of letters in their names. Children will also be introduced to subitising; which is recognising an amount without counting. We will continue learning about measuring length and size using non-standard measurements such as unifix cubes. Children will also be introduced to finding one more or one less and apply this learning to solving number problems. Nursery children will have the opportunities to learn these skills through focused activities and independent play.
We will be creating art work which will focus on fairy tales in the core text. This will include using different materials and techniques to represent the settings and characters. The children will develop skills including drawing, printing and cutting.
Our core text this half term will encourage us to explore different fairytales and characters Our continuous provision will allow the children to investigate props.Through role play in our home corner the children can reenact and recall the stories we have read together as a class.
