Welcome back! We trust that you and your children had a fantastic first half of the autumn term and are now rejuvenated and eager to continue their exciting year at Foxfield. We are thrilled to present the Year 5 curriculum newsletter for the second half of the autumn term, where you can explore the incredible learning opportunities that await your children during this upcoming period.

In English, the children will be reading the book "Where the river runs gold" and they will be writing their own persuasive letter to the Paragon council advocating for the protection of their sacred river and wildlife.
In Maths, the children will be recapping their knowledge of multiplication and division and beginning brand new unit of fractions.
In Science, the children will be answering the question "Are all changes of state reversible? To help them answer this question they will learn about the different states of matter and experimenting what changes are reversible and/or irrversible.
In History, the children will be answering the question "Why was Britain a desirable country to invade and conquer?" they will do this by looking at how and why the Vikings invaded Britain.
In Online Safety, the children will be learning about self image and identify and how this looks across the internet. In Computing, the children will be learning about different types of digital drawings and looking into how vectors work.
In RE, the children will be answering the questions "How do Christian festivals celebrate the life of Jesus Christ?" and they will do this by learning about Christanity with a key focus understanding who Jesus was.
In PE, we will be developing our understanding of multi skills, such as leadership and teamwork. The children will also be looking at different types of balances.
In DT, the children will be spending a fortnight looking at foods from across the world. This half term the children will be looking at Basbousa cake. After food fortnight the children will be desigining and creating a pulley system to carry an object.
In French, the children will be recapping their knowledge of months and learning about how to read the weather and share the weather forecast.
In Music, the children will be answering the question "How Does Music Connect Us with Our Past? and learning singing and playing can be carried out in different styles.
In RHE, the children will be learning about health and wellbeing and the importance of sleep.
We are excited to announce that we will be using Letter-join as our new whole-school handwriting scheme. This follows a successful trial praised by both teachers and students for its effectiveness and engagement. Children can log in to the Letter-join website at home on iPads, tablets and computers.
