This half term we will be identifying human rights through our core text 'Paddington'. We will be discussing Paddington's move to the UK and how he is supported by the Brown family as everyone deserves the right to be welcomed and safe. Throughout the journey, we will be exploring Paddington's favourite things (marmalade sandwiches and the landmarks of the UK) and we will use our indepth character investigation to create our own narrative from the perspective of another character in the story.
This half term, we will be extending our arithmetic skills by learning how to add and subtract 2 digit numbers using the column method. We will be applying our knowledge of place value to exchange our ones and tens and will be using the kagan strategy of rally coaching to support and challenge our peers. We will use manipulatives such as dienes, tens frames and the part, part whole method to help us. We will then continue to count in 2's, 5's and 10's and will be investigating shape towards the end of the half term.
We will continue to learn about living things and their habitat. During the half term, we will be identifying any diets and animal food chains as well as finding out what plants help habitats to develop and grow. This will help us to identify the living and non-living things in a habitat and what these items need to survive to live in that habitat.
This half term we will be beginning a new geography unit with a geographical study of London. We will be linking to our core text, Paddington, identifying all the different landmarks that are in London. We will be comparing these to the landmarks in Peru, Paddington's home town.
We will continue to learn about online safety and how to create a set of instructions linked to programming and debugging. The children will also design algorithms.
In RE we will be focusing on Christianity. We will identify what the precious objects are that Christians use in their life and how it helps to gain a deeper understanding of their beliefs. We will be listening to stories about Jesus and his life and identify what the importance of these stories are.
In PE, we will be exploring net games and how to catch and manoeuvre a moving ball. We will be using rackets to pass a ball to and fro to a partner.. We will develop an awareness of personal space, balance and eye and hand coordination.
We will be designing and making Alfajores (Peruvian Style) in Food Technology and then we will be designing and making a mechanical vehicle that has an axle and wheels to help it move.
We will be focusing on identifying different musical instruments in a variety of songs, and also comparing and contrasting different styles of music.
We will be learning about how we control our emotions and feelings. We will be identifying different strategies to help us understand and recognise how we feel. In addition, we will use breathing techniques to help us control our bodies and help us manage any emotions we have.
We are excited to announce that we will be using Letter-join as our new whole-school handwriting scheme. This follows a successful trial praised by both teachers and students for its effectiveness and engagement. Children can log in to the Letter-join website at home on iPads, tablets and computers.
