Welcome back! We trust that you and your children had a fantastic first half of the autumn term and are now rejuvenated and eager to continue their exciting year at Foxfield. We are thrilled to present the Year 4 curriculum newsletter for the second half of the autumn term, where you can find out about the incredible learning opportunities that await your children during this upcoming term.
Last half term, we wrote our own myths after being inspired by reading our core text 'The Adventures of Odysseys'. We are really proud of what we have achieved!
This half term in English, we will be reading 'Who Let The Gods Out' by Maz Evans. Children will have the opportunity to create a character description using descriptive langauge. For our final outcome children will write a recount based on our main character Elliot.
In Maths, we will continue to solve addition & subtraction using column method. We will begin multiplication and division with a focus on 3, 6, 9, 11 and 12 times tables. We will then move on to look at area.

Please support your child in logging on to Times Tables Rock Stars each day for around 20 minutes to help consolidate their learning.
In Science this half term, our topic is ‘electricity’. We will be learning how to make a circuit as well as what needs to be added to ensure the circuit works. We will then answer the question: "What happens when you turn on the switch of an appliance?"
This half term we will be comparing the human and geographic features of two locations, Greece and the UK. We will research what similarities and differences exist between Greece and the UK that reflect their diverse geographies and cultures.
In Computing, year 4 will be looking into how network devices make up the internet. They will learn this through outlining how websites can be shared via the World Wide Web (WWW), describing how content can be added and accessed on the World Wide Web & evaluating the consequences of unreliable content
RE learning will focus on the places of worship within Christianity. Children will discuss the question, 'What does it mean to be part of a Christian community?' by learning about how places of worship create a sense of belonging. The children will have the opportunity to identify the role of the priest and discuss the art works within churches.
This half term in PE, children will be taking part in multi skills activities. Children will be using different equipment and team building skills throughout the lessons.
The first part of our half term will be focused on Food Fortnight where will be learning about and making Greek meze. We'll be tasting hummus, tzatziki, feta and green olives.
The second half of our DT unit will be focussed on create mosaics inspired by the Ancient Greeks.
This half term children will be focusing and singing songs around the the theme of, ' Exploring feelings when you play'. Children will practice and rehearse a number of songs. We will then begin to prepare for our Christmas concert.
In French, the children will be learning key vocabulary they can use to describe themselves. They will use this language to have conversations with their peers.
In RHE, children will be learning about health and well being. Children will create a well being toolkit as part of their global learning outcome. Children will explore different relaxing techniques and identify what is important to them.
Your child’s spelling lists for the entire half-term are now available below. Each week, children will be quizzed on their spellings, so regular practice at home will be incredibly beneficial. Thank you for supporting their learning!
We are excited to announce that we will be using Letter-join as our new whole-school handwriting scheme. This follows a successful trial praised by both teachers and students for its effectiveness and engagement. Children can log in to the Letter-join website at home on iPads, tablets and computers.
