This half term our core text in English is Islandborn by Junot Diaz. We will be writing a setting description to describe the place where our character is from in the story and creating a fact file of the Dominican Republic using our knowledge from the text. We will also have opportunities to write creative poems about the setting.
We will be looking at addition and subtraction to 10. We will be revisiting our prior learning from reception and building on our knowledge through reasoning. Towards the end of the term we will be looking at shapes and identifying different 3D and 2D shapes.
Seasons
In science this half term year 1 will move on to look at the four seasons. We will identify the changes between the seasons and discuss patterns in the weather.
We will be exploring the history of the local area. We will be making comparisons between the past and the present and comparing how it has changed over time. We will identify similarities and differences from the past and present. We will then research a significant person who has made an impact on the world making it a better place to live in.
In Computing, we will be planning a simple programme using algoriths. We will be using instructions and commands to make our bee-bot move by using the different buttons on the bee-bot. We will use commands like, forward, backwards, left and right.
In Re year 1 will be looking at Christianity and the teachings of God. We will be identifying the key beliefs of christianity and why Christmas is important to Christians. We will take part in the nativity where we will showcase our learning through drama.
In PE we will be focusing on target throwing using different objects. Children will have the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities that involve aiming and throwing at different levels and targets.
In DT this half term we will be making banana bread during food fortnight. We will be identifying healthy and unhealthy foods and the importance of a healthy diet. We will be using this to support us when choosing ingredients for our dish. Following on from food fortnight our DT will focus on construction. We will be constructing junk models using recycled objects. We will be discussing the importance of recycling and how we can reduce waste.
In Music, we will be exploring a variety of songs and experiment with finding the pulse. We will also be listening to an orchestra an identifying instruments used within this group.
In RHE, we will be exploring different feelings and emotions through lots of talk and discussions in circle time. We will be discussing how we can regulate these feelings and feel better. We will also identify what germs are and how we can stop spreading them.
