Dear Preschool Parents and Families,
My name is Miss Karen and I am excited to be your child's preschool teacher this year! This is my 8th year working at Independence Local Schools. My husband and I live in Aurora and we have a ten year old daughter (Meredith) who is in Fourth Grade. We love hiking and exploring all of our beautiful Ohio parks, fishing and spending time with our friends and family.
This will be my 15th year teaching at a public preschool. Prior to the public schools, I worked at a community preschool for 4 years. I love teaching preschoolers because of their excitement, eagerness to learn, creativity and imagination. It is amazes me every year to see all of the growth from their first day of preschool to when they graduate and transition to kindergarten!
I attended Kent State University where I achieved my bachelor’s degree in early childhood development, master’s degree in special education, and endorsement in early intervention.
I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and engaging environment in which to grow emotionally, academically and socially. Each classroom presents a unique community of learners that varies not only in abilities, but also in learning styles. When presenting new concepts and skills, I meet each child where they are at and consider their strengths and interests. I incorporate small group center activities, large group activities, and hands on learning that incorporates the Ohio Early Learning Content Standards. I believe that in order to achieve optimal student success it is important to work as a team with parents.
I consider it a privilege to work with your child. If at any time you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s progress do not hesitate to call, email, or set up a meeting time with me.
Sincerely,
Miss Karen
