Birthday Celebrations

Birthdays are special occasions and we love to celebrate them. Our primary school, however, has found that we need to make a change in our birthday treat policy. Due to the increased number of severe food allergies (peanut, tree nuts, eggs, seeds, gluten, sugar, dairy, etc.), we are joining the many schools that have already adopted a modified birthday treat policy. A committee of stakeholders within IPS has met to discuss and come up with birthday options for our students.

What does this mean? It means that birthdays can be celebrated at school with cookies provided by our food services or, alternatively, by non-food items that are brought into school. Some examples of acceptable non-edible treats include pencils, stickers, temporary tattoos, erasers, silly bands, or any other similar item. The cookie option through our food services will ensure that the food is safe for ALL students. For $12.00 you can have fresh baked cookies from the IPS cafeteria delivered to the classroom for your child’s birthday. The link to order is below and must be completed and submitted at least two weeks in advance.

We recognize that this is a shift from what we have done previously, but we feel that for the safety of all students, we can no longer support the edible birthday treats from outside of the school. We still want to celebrate this important day in your child's life; we just want to do it in a manner that all children can participate.
