Pinna nobilis
Pinna nobilis
Pinna nobilis, commonly known as the noble pen shell or fan mussel, is a marine bivalve mollusc in the family Pinnidae and a large species of Mediterranean clam. It can reach up to 120 cm of shell length. This specimen was around 25cm long.
This species is endemic to the Mediterranean Sea, where it lives offshore at depths ranging between 0.5 and 60 m. It could be found buried beneath soft-sediment areas.
Method
Photo capture using a lightbox, a manual turning table and a blue background over the table. The two parts were captured separately by a still camera taking images on a tripod.
Both sides were modelled separately in Metashpe by Agisoft and merged once the size and texture were fixed.
Comments
The manual reconstruction of the two parts of the model was a challenge. The size had to be corrected and the two sides to be perfectly aligned, leading to a long process.
