Eunicella cavolini
Eunicella cavolini
Eunicella cavolini, often known as the yellow gorgonian, is a species of colonial soft coral belonging to the Gorgoniidae family. It is a common species in parts of the eastern Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Ionian Sea.
Found mainly between 10 and 30 m, it can be seen as deep as 150 m. It is often found growing in association with other soft corals, sponges, polychaete worms, bryozoans, barnacles and winged oysters and can grow up to 50 cm.
Method
Photo capture using a lightbox, a manual turning table and a black background to accentuate the contrast on the pictures. The pictures were taken by a still camera taking images on a tripod.
The photos (75) were imported in Metashpe by Agisoft and the model was built.
Comments
The cleaning of every step leading to the final model was a challenge. Every empty space between the branches of the colony was automatically filled by the software and had to be erased manually. And it was impossible, due to the lightbox, to change the angles of the camera for the photo capture, for this reason, small holes appear when the model is on the bottom view.
