Paracentrotus lividus
Paracentrotus lividus
Paracentrotus lividus is a species of sea urchin in the family Parechinidae commonly known as the purple sea urchin. It is a common species occurring in the Mediterranean Sea and the eastern Atlantic Ocean.
Flattened and greenish, with a diameter of up to 7 cm, the test is densely clothed in long and sharply pointed spines that are usually purple but are occasionally other colours including different shades of brown or olive green. There are five or six pairs of pores on each ambulacral plate and the tube feet are in groups of 5 or 6, arranged in small arcs.
Method
Video capture of the specimen placed on a stand maintained as motionless as possible. The camera was manually held and was rotating around the test to minimize the risks of movement.
The video was uploaded in Metashpe by Agisoft where frames (200) were automatically extracted before being processed and modelled.
Comments:
The video capture gives a very precise reconstruction, unfortunately, with the extraction of frames from a video with a motion an important part of the details in the texture is being lost.
