Cerithium vulgatum
Cerithium vulgatum
Cerithium vulgatum is a species of gastropod that usually lives in sedimentary bottoms covered with algae in shallow water, often near hard substrates. Commonly found in the Mediterranean Sea, it can also be spotted in the Atlantic.
With a length between 4 and 7 cm, the steeply sloping spiral turns and the shallow suture contributes to the identification of the species. Adding to this, the columella is sinuous with a thickening at the upper end of the columellar margin.
Method
Video capture of the specimen suspended by a thread and maintained as motionless as possible by another thread at the bottom. The camera was rotating around the shell to minimize the risks of movement.
The video was uploaded in Metashpe by Agisoft where frames (370) were automatically extracted before being processed and modelled.
Comments:
The video capture gives a very precise reconstruction, unfortunately, with the extraction of frames from a video with motion, an important part of the details in the texture is being lost.
