Assalamualaikum my dearest students,
As we embark on another exciting academic year at IMAS, I am filled with hope and anticipation for the journey ahead. My heartfelt aspiration for each of you is to always strive for excellence, as itqan (excellence) is a quality beloved by Allah. One of the wonders of Islam is its emphasis on the importance of perfecting our work, describing it as an important act of Ibadah. This principle is mentioned in the Holy Qur’an 360 times and highlighted in numerous Hadiths.
Never allow mediocrity to be an option in your life. Dream big and let your dreams inspire your actions. Be the best in every single thing that you do. Remember, literacy is not just the ability to read and write; it is the ability to understand whatever you read and to articulate whatever you think. This cannot be achieved if you rely on technology to do your thinking for you. Reclaim the narrative and enrich the literacy landscape with authentic voices of Muslim authors. Read books to continue expanding your horizons. Never stop reading.
Take advantage of the precious time you have. As Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Take advantage of five before five: your youth before your old age, your health before your sickness, your wealth before your poverty, your free time before your busyness, and your life before your death.” Prepare a block schedule and routine that includes time for your prayers, dua, reading the Quran, exercise, healthy eating, learning, reading, and serving your parents, family, neighbours, and community and follow it.
Your manners and akhlaq are the most important aspects of your character. Do not confuse your knowledge of Deen with your akhlaq. Continuously strive to work on your heart and manners, as being a believer comes with expectations. Reflect on who your role models are. Read biographies rather than just indulging in fiction. Learn from the likes of Helen Keller. Strip yourself of your ego. Talent is not an excuse for bad manners.
You are among the privileged few to receive an education from IMAS. You have the best teachers guiding you, and you are part of a supportive and nurturing community. Your education here prepares you for the world as well as the hereafter. Cherish this opportunity and make the most of it. May Allah bless you with the best of friends, people who will accompany you on your life's journey. Remember, you entered IMAS to learn, and you will leave to serve.
May Allah guide you, protect you, and grant you success in all your endeavors. May this year be filled with learning, growth, and wonderful achievements for each of you. My heartfelt support will always be with you.
Ameen.
Always here for you,
