In this pair of papers, I look at the evolution of American family life in the 1900s. The first paper comes at the material like a typical research paper, but the second looks at the post-World War II years through the generations of a fictional family, using trends of the times to craft a narrative about their lives.
In this paper, I look at the work being done around cultivated meat, products made through extracting animal cells and using them to grow recognizable meat products. This process is expensive and rare at this point, but the science to mass produce cultivated meat is feasible and can even benefit from other genetic technologies to push the idea forward. Governments won’t be unanimous in how they respond to cultivated meat, and there are some researchers who don’t even consider the product meat at all, but as long as utility and ethical considerations are made properly, this is an innovation that could do a lot of good for the planet.
