TV and my wild imagination were always some of my biggest escapes. My parents tried to give us the world, but I was always very unhappy because I felt so alone in a very large family.
Most shows on television were geared toward white audiences when I was growing up. For the most part I didn’t always feel SEEN, especially as a Black, queer kid. Two Black-centered shows I loved were The Proud Family and That’s So Raven.
Noah’s Arc was the one show where everyone looked like me and talked about things that made my ears go up. I was intrigued, and they were all heartthrobs and beautiful, varying in Blackness and size. I wanted to be like them.
