Workshop on
NEP Implementation

The CETE organized a half-day Workshop on Implementation of NEP on 25 July 2023 to discuss the progress in execution of the 2020 National Education Policy. The workshop was attended by members of the CETE, Associate Deans (Academics), along with more than 25 officials from various educational Institutions, including heads from Higher Education Institutions of Jodhpur such as MBM University, JIET, JNVU, LMCST, NIFT Jodhpur, National Skill Training Institute, Jodhpur, and Schools, such as, Heads of Kendriya Vidyalayas, Bodhi International school, Mayoor Chopasni School, Rajmata School, among others. The event was coordinated by Dr. Deepak Saxena, Assistant Professor, School of Management and Entrepreneurship, and Affiliate Member of the CETE, with assistance from Office of the Deputy Director and PRO.

The event began with opening remarks by Prof. Santanu Chaudhury, Director, IIT Jodhpur, and Prof. S. R. Vadera, Deputy Director. The Introduction to the CETE and its activities was briefly presented by Dr. Rajlaxmi Chouhan, Associate Professor, Department of EE, and Affiliate Member of the CETE.

After the opening remarks, the attendees actively deliberated on the progress made so far in terms of NEP implementation and discussed various challenges that lie ahead. Prof. Santanu Chaudhury, Director, IIT Jodhpur, talked about the initiatives taken by the Institute such a broad-based curriculum, more flexibility and interdisciplinarity of technology, sciences and humanities, multiple exit options, bank of credits, and various new programs.  Prof. Akhil Ranjan Garg, Jai Narain Vyas University Jodhpur, also emphasized on the need for upskilling of teachers and a close interaction between schools and higher education institutions. In addition to representatives from other higher education organizations, Prof. Ajay Vardhan Acharya, Regional Director of the IGNOU Jodhpur Regional Center, also highlighted various developments and achievements of the organization towards achieving NEP 2020 in terms of teacher training and creation of new opportunities. Mr. Mohammed Ameen, Deputy Registrar, Maulana Azad University Jodhpur, spoke of the gap in NEP implementation between elite schools and less privileged institutions.

Principals/Senior Staff/Coordinators of various Kendriya Vidyalayas in Jodhpur shared updates about progress in the pre-primary education in terms of establishment of Balvatikas, and other developments such as tinkering labs, mandatory teacher training and upskilling sessions, and the provisions in the NEP for special-needs students. Representatives of Bodhi International school and Mayoor Chopasni Schools, also emphasized on implementation of inquiry-based and project-based learning in alignment with the vision of NEP. 

The discussions also brought out various challenges that lie ahead in the successful implementation of the NEP and ways to mitigate them, such as resource and knowledge sharing, common repository of resources, need for orientation programs for parents to spread awareness about the importance of cultivating various skills in children.

The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Rachel Philip, Assistant Professor, School of Liberal Arts, and Affiliate Member of the CETE. The event was followed by a Press Conference coordinated by the Office of the PRO at IIT Jodhpur
