Important links of the events and activities of EAGE IIT(ISM) student chapter:
"Power the Community" is a prestigious global design competition that challenges students to re-imagine how communities access, distribute, and use energy—focusing on sustainability, affordability, and real world impact. Mr. Pratyush Singh (Integrated M.Tech) from Applied Geophysics and team from Petroleum Engineering were finalists in "Power the Community" for their innovative, low-cost solution tackling energy and sanitation issues in Thirumazhisai.
The EAGE-IIT(ISM) Student Chapter, with the Department of Applied Geophysics, hosted a hands-on workshop on Python and Machine Learning in geosciences, led by Mr. Raj Sahu (Final Year, Int. M.Tech), incoming Geophysicist Intern at BP. The session featured live demos, real-world case studies, and practical ML workflows, highlighting how data science is transforming subsurface exploration and geophysical interpretation.
As part of the EAGE IIT(ISM) Student Chapter GeoQuest Series, Dr. Heather Bedle (Univ. of Oklahoma) delivered an engaging session on using explainable AI (SHAP) to enhance seismic interpretation. Drawing from AASPI research, the talk highlighted how ML boosts the clarity, accuracy, and transparency of geophysical models.
