Professor Saurabh Dutta Gupta from the Department of Applied Geophysics, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad delivered a presentation titled “Capturing Structural Deformation Due to Tectonic Activities in the Shallow Subsurface of the Moon Based on Waveform and Velocity Contrast Analysis” at the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS) Conference 2025, held in Singapore. 

Prof. Saurabh Datta Gupta delivered a presentation at the Symposium on the Role of Upstream Petroleum Engineering in Energy Transition held at IIT Guwahati.

Prof. Niptika Jana was invited to the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, India, to deliver an expert talk on “Seismotectonic Studies across Sikkim Himalayas. ”The lecture, held on May 15, 2025, offered valuable insights into the complex tectonic framework and seismic activity of the Sikkim Himalayas.

Professor Sanjit Kumar Pal, Professor and Former Head, Department of Applied Geophysics, for receiving the National Geoscience Award 2024 from the Ministry of Mines, Government of India. The award was presented by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, on 26th September 2025 at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.

Dr. Sanjit K. Pal received the prestigious Springer Editorial Contribution Award 2025 in recognition of his outstanding service as an Associate Editor of Acta Geophysica. This honor reflects his significant contributions to maintaining the journal’s high editorial standards and promoting excellence in geophysical research and publication.

Prof. Sanjit K. Pal is appointed as guest editor in Discover Geoscience, Springer, on the topic: Climate Change and Water Insecurity: Insights from Semiarid Hydrology.

The Geological Survey of India (GSI) and IIT (ISM) Dhanbad have signed an MoU to explore natural hydrogen in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The agreement, signed by Dr. Sudip Bhattacharyya (Deputy Director General, GSI) and Prof. Sagar Pal (Dean R&D, IIT- ISM) at GSI’s Central Headquarters in Kolkata, is spearheaded by Prof. Saurabh Datta Gupta, Associate Professor, Department of Applied Geophysics. This strategic partnership advances green energy innovation and aligns with India’s Net Zero targets and sustainable energy vision.
