Early in their MYP programme, the IB Team works closely with all students to ensure they have a smooth and considered transition into their IB DP/CP or Courses programmes. Below is an outline of the main processes involved.
Grade 9
The process of preparing students to choose the most suitable G11 and 12 programme begins in G9, through counselling sessions with the Comprehensive Counsellor. These sessions are aimed at assisting students in identifying their passion and strength and exploring their university aspiration.
Grade 10
When the students reach G10, they participate in information sessions with the IBDP Coordinator and Comprehensive Counselor to help them understand the different programmes and to identify which academic programme best meets the needs for each student.
The Options Fair, 1-2-1 Interviews and Sample DP/CP classes
In G10 the students and parents will make their pathway and subject choices with a variety of scaffolds and supports including:-
The G10 Options Fair is an annual event that brings the students, parents and teachers together to discuss the academic programmes and subjects in G11/12 at IGBIS.
Students also get the opportunity to experience certain DP/CP classes for half a block/lesson to see what certain subjects are like on a DP/CP level.
Finally individual 1-2-1 interviews take place with each student for at least 20 minutes to counsel and support students in making the correct choices.
PARENT PRESENTATION - 2025/26
We started out Options / Pathways process on November 12th with our first Parent Presentation -introducing in broad strokes the inclsuive pathways and subjects we offer at IGB.
It is important to realise that this is the beginning of the journey - and will not end until April 2026, when contional offers and pathways are finalised.
General notes and requirements
Students must fulfill the IGBIS Attendance Policy, which requires a minimum attendance of 85% in each subject for each semester. This includes days/lessons missed due to illness, extended vacations, unattended school events, and late arrival or early departure at the beginning and end of the school year respectively. The Secondary School Principal, Diploma Programme Coordinator and Career-related Programme Coordinator will review each student’s case at the end of each semester.
STUDENT PRESENTATIONS - 2025/26
PART 1
This is very similar to the parent presentation, but with a few different fun animations :)
General notes and requirements
IGBIS will recognise the credentials of any student transferring into the school from other accredited educational systems for graduation purposes. Entry into our Diploma Programme and Career Programme will be dependent on the student fulfilling all IGBIS enrollment requirements, including a review of their grades and the compatibility of their subjects previously studied with those offered at IGBIS.
PART 2
This presentation helps student to go into more detail about "What Universities WANT" in terms of subject and pathway requirements. The session involved students doing research on our Future Pathways platform - Unifrog.
