HOW TO WRITE A STORY?

PLANNING A NARRATIVE

THE PLAN

1. Think about this:

- Who? - Main character. People who help him/her.

- What? - A problem, an unexpected event, etc.

- Where? - A description of the scene may be useful.

- When? - Will you need any specific historical information for your story?

1. WITH THESE ELEMENTS GIVEN, CAN YOU THINK OF A TITLE? WRITE IT!!

(SOMETIMES YOU CAN’T THINK OF THE APPROPRIATE TITLE TILL THE END; BUT HAVING A PROVISIONAL ONE MAY BE HELPFUL)

1. What’s going on? YOU CAN TELL A STORY IN THE PRESENT TENSE; BUT YOU OFTEN USE THE SIMPLE PAST FOR THIS.
2. What are the consequences of this?
3. What’s the climax of the story? (CLIMAX: the most important / exciting / moving event before the end).
4. How does the main character get over it?

THE PLAN IS THE SKELETON OF THE STORY. IF SOMETHING IS MISSING, NOBODY WILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND IT!
