Circuit Lab offers competitors the unique opportunity to test their skillsets in the field of electrical engineering and logic. Composed of both a written test and a hands-on component (split between two competitors) the circuit lab event tests students understanding of circuits. The written test covers topics such as Ohm’s law (relationships between voltage, current, and resistance), circuit design, magnets, and charge. The hands-on component Is often a breadboard (a type of modular circuit board) on which competitors design a circuit and perform calculations for voltage, current, or resistance using ohm’s law. Along the way, competitors gain experience working with concepts relevant in a plethora of fields beyond electrical engineering such as historical viewpoints on the development of electricity, a knowledge of physics, and an education in combinational logic. If any of these concepts fascinate you, I highly encourage you to give circuit lab a try!
