Career Technical Education (CTE) courses provide students with real-world workforce skill development, career exploration, and college preparation. CTE courses integrate rigorous academic instruction with technical and occupational content that helps to increase student achievement, graduation rates, as well as college and career readiness. CTE courses are sequenced to create pathways for students in a course of study which can lead to college and career opportunities.

The U.S. Department of Education found that students enrolled in CTE programs have a high school graduation rate of more than 90 percent, compared to the average national freshman graduation rate of 75 percent. Additionally, 70 percent of students concentrating in CTE areas stayed in postsecondary education or transferred to a four-year degree program.
