Sectors & Pathways

There are 15 identified industry sectors in California. CTE currently offers training based upon current and future labor market demands, and programs are focused on those career sectors where there is proven local industry demand and sufficient student interest and need.

What is a CTE Pathway?

A CTE pathway is a sequence of classes in a course of study which can lead to college and career opportunities.

CTE Pathway Sequence

A Pathway is designed to provide students with a sequence of courses that will lead to progressive achievement of technical skill proficiency, and could lead to a credential and/ or a certificate.

Course Sequencing of CTE Pathways consists of a preferable sequence format of 3 courses in each program, ending with a capstone /advanced course. Some variations to this sequence will consist of 2 courses a concentrator and capstone and in some instances just a Capstone course.

IMPORTANT NOTE In order for a student to be considered a CTE Completer a student must complete a CTE Sequence of courses of 300 hours or more and pass a capstone course.

Introductory Course

An initial or introductory course in a CTE program intended to provide a beginning or introductory level of information about an industry sector or career pathway.
