Where is New Orleans
Louis Armstrong was born in 1901 in New Orleans, Louisiana, in a very poor part of the city and had a difficult childhood. Forced to leave school very young, he immediately began working delivering coal.

During one New Year's Eve celebration he fired a gun in the air, was arrested and sent to a reform school for boys. There, he started loving music as he received musical instruction on the cornet. When he was released, he continued to study music, learning to play the horn with famous musicians, like Joe "King" Oliver. He borrowed a horn until he had money to buy one. Shortly after, he began to play in the most popular band in New Orleans.
It was 1918 and from this moment he started his career in music and became one of the greatest jazz trumpet player in history.

He played on riverboats and with good black bands around New Orleans. Then he moved to Chicago to play with the Creole Jazz Band, a legend in jazz circles, to New York, where he joined the Fletcher Henderson Band, and back to Chicago.

Between 1925 and 1928, he recorded the “Hot Five” series of jazz records. Many people think this is the best jazz ever recorded. Armstrong became a role model for many jazz players. In the early 1930s Armstrong started to travel all over the United States and Europe and soon became one of the most famous men in America. In the 1930s and 1940s, Armstrong played and sang with his own big dance band. He became known as much for his singing as his playing. He also appeared in movies and on the radio.
By 1945, big bands were no longer popular, so Armstrong formed a smaller group called the All Stars.
In 1968 he also partecipated to the Sanremo festival as a guest.
During his life he married 4 times and his wives greatly influenced him and his career.
Despite his many marriages he had no children.
He died in 1971, in his sleep, He was 70.
His best songs are in my opinion: What a wonderful world, Hello Dolly and Summertime.
