I.C.3 “Don Bosco-Francesco D’Assisi” is a Comprehensive school, with 1300 pupils, aged from 3 to 14 in Torre del Greco, near Naples-Italy. As the school is situated in an economically disadvantaged area, lots of families have a low level of income and some pupils lack motivation for school due to their families’ economic social, and psychological background. The school's mission is to be a welcoming place, where a sense of belonging to a community is built, where inclusive and welcoming activities are favored with the aim of increasing school attendance by 10% and educational success by at least one grade.
For this reason, in order to contrast students’ absenteeism and lack of self-confidence, the school activates Inclusive and Laboratory Didactics: Manipulative, Jewelry ones. Through the manipulation and the active involvement in all they do, students acquire self-confidence and feel more motivated to learn.
There are also classes specialized in Music with Students playing: the piano, the guitar, the violin and the drums. Accompanied by a choir, they take part to musical competitions and show their acquired skills with success. Besides our school wishes to broaden the horizon of the pupils.
For this reason, since 2013, the school has been working on Erasmus projects with students’ exchanges for several years with the aim to offer students an insight into the lives of other teenagers in Europe. We want to raise students’ awareness of the similitudes and differences that exist across our continent. Being European today does not mean living in one place and being oblivious to the rest of the world. We believe our strength can only be more efficient when combined to that of others. We wish we could show our pupils that they can learn from their European partners as well as teach them new things.
