Every time we open a window in our home, the first thing we see depends on where we live. Some of us see our own backyard, garden, park, busy street, or an open landscape. But no matter where we live, the sun shines for all of us, even when we stay at home during the lockdown. Our Landscape with Sunshine was made with circles by using plates, bowls, mugs, and glasses.
One day, we opened the window and saw trees, which reminded us of the roots and generations of our family. We created a Family Tree by using simple toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls.
One day we stayed at the window and looked at the sky. The beautiful blue sky reminded us of our time on the beach by the Atlantic Ocean. We created an Ocean View. We used tissues, paper towels, and toilet paper to make swirly waves.
One day, we decided to open our refrigerator, grab some fruits and set up a Still Life with Fruits by using bowls and pieces of fabric as towels and cloths we had at home. Another day, we opened the refrigerator again and we created another still life called Basket of Vegetables. For the background we used very dark colors to make a nice contrast.
On one sunny day, we brought together all the vases and vessels we had at home, set them up horizontally or vertically, even upside down. We decorated the vases by using patterns, words and create artwork called My Story on a Vase inspired by graffiti, street art.
A week before the last week of school, we imagined that we were birds traveling to our neighborhood and we experienced a Bird’s Eye View of the streets below us. We created a colorful abstract picture made by using squares and rectangles and tracing recycled boxes and containers or even our cell phones to make our own Mondrian’s Broadway Boogie-Woogie.
So finally, during the last week of school, we walked up to our windows and drew our Window’s View. All the artwork we did at home we created by using personal, family, household objects around us and we used our imagination to envision all places we could not visit during lockdown time.
