Preparations for Online participants

1. Retreat Space

Please set up your retreat space in advance.

Since our environment reflects our mind, taking the time to clean and prepare the retreat space is a powerful preliminary practice. Keeping our environment neat also helps prepare our mind for cultivation.

For meditation, please prepare a meditation cushion and a small blanket cover your legs. If you have trouble sitting cross-legged, you may sit in a chair.

2. Attire

Please wear neat, loose, comfortable and modest clothing.

We recommend a shirt with sleeves and long pants. While the attire does not need to be formal, it should be neat.

3. Electronic Media

The retreat will be hosted on Zoom.

We hope that participants will keep their cameras on during the duration of the retreat. To minimize distractions, please exit all programs except Zoom and turn off all other notifications on your devices. Please keep your phone off for the duration of the retreat.

4. Meals

Please prepare vegetarian meals in advance. It is most efficient if these can be easily reheated.

5. Observing silence

Silence is encouraged for the duration of this retreat.

Please coordinate with others in your household in advance to ensure you have the time and space necessary to practice diligently and maintain silence for as much of the retreat as possible.

6. Communication

To ensure a conductive environment, please communicate your retreat plans to those with whom you share a living space.

Have an open conversation with them about your retreat and let them know you will be striving to maintain silence. If necessary, you might consider setting aside a specific time of the day to connect verbally so that it is not too distracting.

Post your retreat schedule and coordinate your timing with others in your living space to avoid unnecessary interactions.
